STOP TRYING TO OCCUPY ME!!!! I AM WHO I AM...

by Ambush Vin

It amazes me how many followers there actually are in the world. In hip-hop culture for instance, when rappers brought back "skinny jeans", (yes, I meant brought back for those of you born post-'87), now all of a sudden everybody had to have skinny jeans because Lil Wayne or Jim Jones was rockin them. In other words, they wanted to be like them. Me personally, I don't knock skinny jeans because I am no kind of hater in any sense, fashion, or form. You like it I love it...if you're a WOMAN! lol  I have absolutely nothing against homosexuals, but, and I am just keepin it real people, I think skinny jeans look gay on men. Just my opinion. Let me get back on track here... Question folks...how can we determine what an acceptable image is when judging other cultures? In this age where co...rp...orations (yes, I am biting my tongue really hard!) promote diversity (at least on paper they do), why is it so hard to NOT stereotype a person based on appearances? I am a black man who loves Sci-Fi, plays chess, loves to read, and can debate with you all day about how far ahead of his time Nikola Tesla was. (Sorry Rush and Ann, yes I CAN read!) Well, if I let unwritten rules bother me, then I could never be successful by corporate America's standards. Why? Well, for starters, my image. I am comfortable in a pair of Levi's, a t-shirt, a pair of Nike Cortez, and my fitted cap. I wear a black opal covered stainless steel chain that drapes over my chest with a huge cross. I love Hip-Hop and when not in a professional setting, I often speak in Ebonics (slang). According to corporate Americas standards, I guess that would make me a thug right? Well, if you think that, I think you are a moron...and a FOLLOWER! I'm not trying to be you or like anyone you're associated with. I don't see how you followers do it. I'd feel REALLY stupid wearing clothes I don't like to wear, verbally agreeing with someone's statement, when I really disagree, and screwing over the people who really care about me for people who only care about my financial status. WTF. You can't even be yourself because you don't know who yourself is. That's a shame you should feel pitiful. No, I don't feel bad about saying that because 9 times out of 10 a follower doesn't even realize they're a follower, so I'm not hurting anyone's feelings now...trust me. Even if I was, I don't care. If everyone were as clear and precise with their words as I am, I think the world would be a much better place...but thats another topic for another post. Bottom line...I'm comfortable with who I am, you CANNOT occupy  my mind. Sorry, Glenn go brainwash someone else, I'm unplugged!
