Time for a 3rd Party...

by Ambush Vin

I know, I know...you're thinking "here he goes with another politcal post". Well for those of you who don't know, politics is everything. Politicians from Congressmen to Councilmen draft and pass laws that affect us 99%'rs daily. However, the bad part about politicians is there are thousands of corporations who negotiate through lobbyists with politicians. The politician then has a moral choice to make: does he do whats best for his constituents or does he draft a bill that will benefit the lobbying corporation. Unfortunately, we all know the answer to that. They should just pass out NASCAR jackets on Capitol Hill with all of their sponsors. I could see Eric Cantor wit a Koch Brothers NASCAR jacket... The problem is that the "unintended" (pun intended) effect of Reagonomics was the shift of power from our Government to corporations. Our government is protects, supports, and is ran by corporate interest. Hermann Cain stated it today: "I am the Koch Brothers brother from another mother" WTF! Mr. Cain must be snorting COCAINE? Is he paying attention to what's happening around the WORLD? People are fed up with the BS. WE ARE OCCUPYING EVERYTHING. The corporations and investment firms on Wall Street go their bailout...where's ours? These are the same corporations that take our AMERICAN jobs overseas to India where the average annual salary is $500/yr. Corporations would rather destroy our country and send our economy to hell than to pay (gasp) Union wages. Well, personally, me and the rest of the 99%'rs have a problem with buying flimsy products made, grown, or raised beyond OSHA's, the USDA's, the EPA's, and Americans' standards. Can u say RECALL? It's time to limit Congress's terms. 4 years for Senators  and 3 years for the House of Representatives. ONE TERM. I don't understand how these bozos are still carrying on with business as usual. They, along with their corporate media sponsors, are ignoring the fact that its a movement growing like wildfire right in their backyards. What do they think this is gonna lead to? Well first of all, Xmas is coming up...and I can see a "commercial Xmas boycott" in Wal-Mart's future. Score one for the Mom and Pops around the country!  Second of all, we're gonna start putting our own people in office. In other words....A 3rd PARTY!!! Michele Bachmann can't even count to 3...

These are our brothers and sisters in the trenches standing up for all 99% of us...including the ones who don't realize that they are a part of the 99%. Speaking of...OAKLAND POLICE YOU ARE A PART OF THE 99%! How are you ENFORCING the law by infringing on our 1st Amendment rights? Protect and Serve, not Seek and Destroy. Tear Gas? WTF! What if one of your children were sleeping at the site of the protest? That makes you all guilty of treason in my eyes. You are just another ignition source to the fire burning in all of our hearts right now. So, in a morbid way, and regretfully, I want to THANK all the police departments around the world who are working against the movement. I'm not thanking you for the Tear Gas, I'm not thanking you for your use of excessive force, I'm thanking you for making this movement even BIGGER! You see, the more you BREAK the law you are paid to enforce, the more eyes YOU open to yet another cruel injustice. People remember when the Tea Baggers were protesting, when the establishment described them as a "grassroots movement", when thousands of people also protested "peacefully" (yeah right). Where were you then? Protecting and Serving Fuhrer Koch, Herr Cantor, and Frau Palin. Its time to look past the illusions that we succumb to in our society everyday. Our society meaning the have-nots. Unplug people! We're fighting the same battle.

STOP TRYING TO OCCUPY ME!!!! I AM WHO I AM...

by Ambush Vin

It amazes me how many followers there actually are in the world. In hip-hop culture for instance, when rappers brought back "skinny jeans", (yes, I meant brought back for those of you born post-'87), now all of a sudden everybody had to have skinny jeans because Lil Wayne or Jim Jones was rockin them. In other words, they wanted to be like them. Me personally, I don't knock skinny jeans because I am no kind of hater in any sense, fashion, or form. You like it I love it...if you're a WOMAN! lol  I have absolutely nothing against homosexuals, but, and I am just keepin it real people, I think skinny jeans look gay on men. Just my opinion. Let me get back on track here... Question folks...how can we determine what an acceptable image is when judging other cultures? In this age where co...rp...orations (yes, I am biting my tongue really hard!) promote diversity (at least on paper they do), why is it so hard to NOT stereotype a person based on appearances? I am a black man who loves Sci-Fi, plays chess, loves to read, and can debate with you all day about how far ahead of his time Nikola Tesla was. (Sorry Rush and Ann, yes I CAN read!) Well, if I let unwritten rules bother me, then I could never be successful by corporate America's standards. Why? Well, for starters, my image. I am comfortable in a pair of Levi's, a t-shirt, a pair of Nike Cortez, and my fitted cap. I wear a black opal covered stainless steel chain that drapes over my chest with a huge cross. I love Hip-Hop and when not in a professional setting, I often speak in Ebonics (slang). According to corporate Americas standards, I guess that would make me a thug right? Well, if you think that, I think you are a moron...and a FOLLOWER! I'm not trying to be you or like anyone you're associated with. I don't see how you followers do it. I'd feel REALLY stupid wearing clothes I don't like to wear, verbally agreeing with someone's statement, when I really disagree, and screwing over the people who really care about me for people who only care about my financial status. WTF. You can't even be yourself because you don't know who yourself is. That's a shame you should feel pitiful. No, I don't feel bad about saying that because 9 times out of 10 a follower doesn't even realize they're a follower, so I'm not hurting anyone's feelings now...trust me. Even if I was, I don't care. If everyone were as clear and precise with their words as I am, I think the world would be a much better place...but thats another topic for another post. Bottom line...I'm comfortable with who I am, you CANNOT occupy  my mind. Sorry, Glenn go brainwash someone else, I'm unplugged!

CRACK AND POWDERED COCAINE SENTENCING FINALLY MADE EQUAL...

By Carol Cratty, CNN

Washington (CNN) -- For thousands of prison inmates convicted of crack cocaine charges, the prison doors will be opening early, thanks to sentencing changes easing the disparity between the penalties for possessing or distributing crack vs. powder cocaine.

Congress passed the Fair Sentencing Act in August 2010, changing the 100-to-1 disparity between minimum sentences for crack and powder cocaine to 18 to 1. The U.S. Sentencing Commission voted this summer to make the reduced crack penalties retroactive, which means more than 12,000 current inmates are eligible to request reduced sentences.

The retroactivity took effect Tuesday. The Sentencing Commission estimates that inmates will have an average of three years chopped off their sentences. An estimated 1,800 inmates became eligible for release immediately because they had already served enough time, and prosecutors did not object to their release.

Critics of the old sentencing system say it was unfair to African-Americans, who make up the majority of those convicted of possessing and distributing crack.

"This really has been one of the great stains on our federal criminal justice system for 20 years or more," said Michael Nachmanoff, the Federal Public Defender for the Eastern District of Virginia. "This disparity between the punishment for crack cocaine and powder was really unjustified."

Nachmanoff noted under the old guidelines someone who had just 5 grams of crack cocaine would receive a mandatory minimum sentence of five years. But someone would have to have 500 grams of powdered cocaine to receive a similar sentence.

Nachmanoff's district is believed to have the largest number of people in the country -- between 800 and 900 people -- who might benefit from the reduced sentencing guidelines on crack. He said 75 of his clients were expected to be released on the first day of retroactivity.

"A lot of people have been sitting in jail for a long time not because they didn't commit crimes, but because the punishment they faced was too harsh and unjustified compared to other people who had committed similar crimes in similar ways," Nachmanoff told CNN. He said reduced sentences will not be automatic. Judges must review the cases and determine whether an early release of an inmate represents a danger to the community.

William Johnson, a Virginia man convicted of conspiracy to distribute cocaine in 1997, was one of those released Tuesday. "It's unbelievable. I'm ecstatic," Johnson told CNN." The 39-year-old father of four said he only found out Monday he would be released the next day.

Under the terms of his original sentence, he would have been eligible for release in October 2018, and that sentence was reduced a few years ago so that his revised release date was June 2014.

Johnson, who identified himself as an African-American, said there seemed to be a racial component to the different sentences given out in the past for crack and powder cocaine, but he said he wouldn't describe himself as bitter.

"I don't have time for it," said Johnson. He said he's concentrating on catching up with family members and making plans to go into business cleaning office buildings.

Families Against Mandatory Minimums has fought for changes in mandatory cocaine penalties for years.

"Most mandatory sentences are so high and so rigid that judges can't get around them, so people are going to prison for extraordinarily long times, way beyond what they need to learn their lessons," said FAMM spokeswoman Julie Stewart.

But even with the changes, there is still an 18-to-1 disparity in sentences for crack and powder cocaine offenses. Nachmanoff said now a person with crack will have to have 28 grams before triggering a mandatory five-year minimum sentence. But the person with powder cocaine still must have a much larger amount -- at least 500 grams.

"Ultimately the right answer is 1 to 1, and people in the law enforcement community and the criminal justice system recognize that," said Nachmanoff. "But that just means that there's still more work to do."

OCCUPY THE VOTING BOOTHS

  •

I know, I know what you’re thinking: “My vote doesnt count anyways…” WRONG! This election in November 2012 is almost as important as the 2008 presidential election where we did an excellent job of keeping Sarah “Wailin Palin” out of the White House. BTW, I think the entire country should thank Tina Fey for her imitation of Sarah on SNL, I’m sure it swayed some votes…lol. Anyways, these congressional elections are especially important this time because if the common sense people don’t vote, we gave this nation to the Tea Party in 2010.. For those of you who don’t know who the Tea Party is…what rock have you been under for the last 30 months? No, really, the Tea Party is, to be honest and frank, a bunch of ultraconservative bimbos who want to take our country (yes, urbanites, OUR country) back to the era of Jim Crow and pre-Great Depression! Their platform is smaller government and less taxes for….hmmm…where have we heard this before...the job creators (IN OTHER WORDS THE RICH) I really would like for Frau Palin and Herr Beck to explain how smaller government, in a country with 300 million people, would work? What are we gonna get rid of to make this a smaller government? Let me guess…you want to start of by repealing the health plan and then after that you’re gonna either eliminate or privatize Social Security right? I believe I speak for every working American who’s income has a Social Security Tax Deduction when I say that the President will have to pull all of the troops from around the world to protect Capitol Hill if Congress eliminated Social Security. Do you really believe that working Americans who have paid into this system for 30-40 years are REALLY going to go along with this silently? You guys are so out of touch with people its pathetic! Where is the plan for JOB creation? When are we going to create NEW REVENUE to aid our ailing economy, Mr. Cantor? Unless you want this country to return to the same shape as 82 years ago…GET OUT AND VOTE! The far right wackos, corporate & spineless Democrats, and the Tea Party are all one and the same! They got us into this recession and almost destroyed our country! That being said, I have to give a big shout out to those on the frontlines of the Occupy Wall Street movement all over the world. They can't ignore us forever. When we become PROACTIVE and start supporting and sponsoring candidates who really believe in CHANGE, they'll have NO CHOICE but to listen because they'll want our votes! YOUR VOTE COUNTS…EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO VOTE!!! OCUUPY THE WORLD...OCCUPY EVERYWHERE!
